Specialized Eyeglasses for Different Vision Problems

Since eyeglasses are so common, they can be relatively easy to overlook.  While everyone understands that they can improve a person’s vision, most don’t give too much thought to just how intricate and complex they can be.  At Georgia Eye Physicians and Surgeons, board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. William Segal and consultative optometrist Dr. Mark Lay treat all kinds of vision problems, from the simplest to the most complex, and we can offer a variety of custom eyeglasses that perform specialized functions.

Specialized Eyeglasses for Different Vision Problems

Standard Eyeglasses

The common refractive errors that cause nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism are most commonly corrected using standard eyeglasses or contact lenses.  The addition of a second artificial lens, placed in front of the eye, is usually sufficient to overcome problems with the eyes’ shape and to bring images into clear focus.

Prism Eyeglasses

Sometimes eye misalignment can cause the brain to interpret a solitary object as two images instead of one cohesive image.  While regular eyeglasses improve the vision of one or both eyes or help patients see better up close or at a distance, Prism Eyeglasses use prisms and a narrower focus to assist patients in maintaining proper positioning and function of both eyes, primarily to correct double vision (diplopia) or eye positioning.

Protective Eyeglasses

The eyes are sensitive organs that need to be protected from accidental injury and environmental hazards, like ultraviolet light.  Our on-site optical center offers a wide variety of sunglasses as well as protective safety goggles for all forms of sports and activities.  We can even customize protective goggles to match an eyeglass prescription for patients who are nearsighted, farsighted, or who suffer from astigmatism.

Progressive Eyeglasses

As the eyes age, their lenses gradually become less flexible and the muscles surrounding them grow weaker and less responsive, a condition known as presbyopia.  This means that many people begin to have difficulty seeing objects at close range about the time that they reach the age of forty.  These patients often find that they need eyeglasses that have two different prescriptions, one for distance vision and one to see things close up.  At Georgia Eye Physicians and Surgeons, we offer the state of the art Varilux® X Series™ progressive lenses, which not only ensure quality vision at every distance but also overcome a typical frustration with many progressive lenses – having to adjust one’s head to find the right angle.

From now through the end of the year, the optical center at Georgia Eye Physicians and Surgeons is offering special deals on the Varilux® X Series™ progressive lenses, as well as deals on high quality Eyezen™ single vision lenses.  If you would like additional information, or if you are interested in scheduling an appointment for a routine or comprehensive medical eye examination, please contact Georgia Eye Physicians and Surgeons today.
