UV exposure: If you expose your eyes to excessive amounts of sun in a short time span, you can from photokeratitis. UV radiation over time can increase your chances of developing a cataract and could cause damage to the retina.
Computers: Many individuals suffer from Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) which includes blurred vision, seeing spots, headaches, and fatigue. In 2012, The Vision Council reported that almost 70% of United States adults experience some sort of eye strain from digital devices.
Bright lights: With extended exposure, bright lights can damage sensitive light receptor cells in your retina.
High blood pressure: Can cause hypertensive retinopathy, which can cause damage to the eye’s blood vessels.
Reading in dim light: Though reading in dim light will not permanently damage your eyes, it can still cause strain on them.
Wearing contacts to bed or for long periods of time: Wearing lenses while sleeping can block the flow of oxygen to the eyes. Also, avoid wearing contact lenses for more than 19 hours because it can cause permanent damage as well as discomfort.
